It’s almost a year ago now; Celeste, one of my oldest friends and I are on the phone watching the Ironman Triathlon together. Now you know how you get when you’re on the phone with someone who knows you better than you know yourself? You get yourselves into trouble. We are and always will be each other’s greatest enabler for the many schemes, plans and plots that make our lives interesting.

“You know, we could do that.’

“You know it, and we would complete it even if we are old, broken and decrepit”

“I don’t know about you, but I ain’t decrepit.”

“Fine, but we’d still finish, just like that girl from The Biggest Loser.  We’ve gotta train, and I mean like now, today, this very minute.

“Yeah, well, okay. So can we be at least a little logical about this right. There’s NO WAY we’ll be able to train hard enough from scratch to finish the Hawai’i Ironman for next year.  We could build up to it gradually; in 6 months we can do 5K’s and then add 10K’s, and then add ½ marathons.

“Right! Good plan. We’re already good swimmers, so that training will be ok. What are the distances for each leg?”

“Hmmm, I’m not sure.”

“Okay, so we’ll do research, and come up with a training plan”.

“Right! Talk to you tomorrow.”

“Right! Tootle pip!”

“Pip tootle.”

And that’s how it all started. Summer 2012 Celeste and I became triathlon long-distance training partner. There’s more to the story, and we’ll keep you posted on our training plans, competitions, and all the other crazy things that happen when two ordinary women lay claim to their rights as Amazons!

I wanna hear your tales of daring do, so comment and tell your story.
